Lou thank you, I know when mum found out about her (only 11 years ago) she wrote to the hospital and they said they had no records even though she was taken there by ambulance. From what mum has said grandad paid for a proper burial for her but will have to get her to gently prob my gran. Will get mum to re write to the hospital maybe they will recheck. Dawnie xx

Some times Dawn the baby would have been buried in a grave with another person, it was common practice in those days....Is it possible to work out when the burial would have been and check with the cemetry if someone else was burried that day??? They very rarely gave stillborns, even full term their own graves... If you still have no joy contact all the cemetries in the area, sometimes more than one were used for burials by the hospitals... There should be a register at the hospital containing all the details, maybe they could check it hasnt been mis-transcribed?? Hope the info helps... LOU XXXX Ps. good luck!!!

John Thanks, dads mum is still alive but very frail and evey now and then we get snippets of info but would be asking too much of her to request a cert so will have to wait until she is no longer with us and then dad will get one. Problem is if they can't find her burial in the records of the cemetery don't know where to go next. dawnie x

The stillbirths register is a separate register which can only be searched by a parent or brother or sister. This isn't something I've ever had to do. If your mum has found a helpful person, maybe they will point her in the right direction if she asks. You know where your dad was born, so the Registrar of that district may be able to point your mum in the right direction.

Need help pls. Dad was a twin and his sister died. We presume she was stillborn from what nan has said. Apparently my grandad went to the hospital and saw her and was explained to him what happened and he also had her buried and went to that even told my nan where she was buried. Mum has written to the cemetry and they have referred her to someone else as it wasn’t in the cemetery. Mum has spoken to the Superintendent who has been very helpful. Two of them have been looking her entry and can’t find it, where she was buried opened in 1942 and she was born end of that year so would of been buried early 1943 . They have told mum that as she was full term she would of had to be registered. She isn’t in live births so we presume she is on the still births register. Mum is trying to find her burial place but we don’t know where to go next any ideas? Even has the Superintendent stumped. Dawnie x
