i have dealt direct with Liverpool before and they are very good. I agree if you give them all the info and both dates and £7 you should get the right cert! Helen.

If you apply directly to Liverpool Register Office, telling them there are 2 possibilities and giving them all the additional info you have-Dads name, occupation etc, along with your 7 quid and an sae, they will issue the correct one for you.

what you could do is order one of the certs. If you put reference checking points (parents names) and these don't match the cert, then they refund £4 of the £7 paid. Then, if it isn't the wrong one, you'll be able to order the other, and if it is the right one then that'll be OK. Alterbatively, you could contact the local RO who can be a lot more helpful and would probably look for free. But, if you are looking from the GRO then the cheapest would be £7, the most expensive £10. does that make sense? lol

Can anyone help with a query I have? My g grandad was THOMAS CROPPER, I know he was born 1883 in Liverpool but when I look him up in Free BDM there are two born in Liverpool that year June 1883 which is 8b 94 and Sep 1883 which is 8B 25. I know his father was Edward Cropper and his mother Sarah Mary Cropper (nee Samuels). Is there another way to find out which is him without having to pay and order both birth certs? Also I can trace his family 1901 census but he isn't showing as living with them and I just can't find him on a search. His mum and dad , sisters and brothers were living at 88 Radcliffe st, everton, liverpool according to 1901 census. Thanks for any help you experts can give. Lynne
