I have a marriage between John Attenborough & Millicent Hubbard (b est 1722 of Plumtree), 1743 Nottingham, St Nicholas (IGI) and have been trying to find her baptism. There is a baptism of Mildred Hubbard, 1721/1722 Plumtree (two different submitted records), parents Joseph & Sarah, but no Millicent. Both names could be forms of Millie, but I have not come across them as interchangeable before, and I can't come up with an alternative. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Have you looked at the actual bp register/film for the parish? Or the BTs? Sometimes there are variations between the 2 sets of records. Jay

No, I haven't, but I would have to make special arrangements to order the film to view at a Family History Centre, because I am nowhere near the county archive. This is a fairly casual bit of research where I am trying to link very distant relations to family names I already have in my tree, and it would hardly be worth the effort. Having said that, I am reluctant to bash on as though I have a match, as the match is hardly a racing certainty!

Yes, a common problem. As we all know, for each extracted entry on IGI, there are at least 5 equivalents which aren't, and of course the submission MAY have been put on by someone who has carried out thorough research, or it may not! Any way of contacting the submitter, incase it turns out that the same person has actually submitted both? Jay

The dates are different, but both baptism records are for a Mildred, whereas my marriage record is a Millicent. I have not come across those names as being interchangeable, and I accuse myself of wishful thinking in wanting to believe they are the same person. I have Richard Hubbard, 1562 Plumtree as 10GGF, and it would be nice to be able to connect him, through his descendants, to Millicent (who might be Mildred).

Not impossible. My grandmother's sister was registered as Millie at birth. On the 1881 census she was listed as Millicent but all census after that she was called Mildred and she married using the name Mildred. Seems very odd to me. I've no explanation for it. My Dad called her Aunt Mil, and had no idea of her full name.

Thanks for that. Perhaps it is the same person: it looks as though I may have a new sixth cousin!
