Help please with a 1871 and 1881 Census mystery.

Thank you, Sheila, Andrew and Maureen. Andrew, she married as Esther A Maidman in 1883 but I guess she could have reverted back to her maiden name. I'm guessing that she may have gone overseas with her mistress as a ladies' maid. I should have known that she could have been in domestic service as nearly all my Maidman ladies were. I have found a very informative site about domestic service www.ourwardfamily.com/victorian_servants.htm I will put this site on another thread as I think some people may find in helpful. Can't find her in '81. Perhaps she married more than once?

I have searched and searched for Esther Ann Maidman b. 1846 Woodford, Essex. She is on the 1851/61 Census'. I have found her married in 1883 and she died in 1889. Where is she in 1871 and 1881? Could someone check please? Thank you. Susan
