If it's 1827, it'll be round hand, NOT secretary hand, which looks very different, but is much easier to read than round hand. This site has some examples to help: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/palaeography/further_practice.htm |

Never tried reading a legal document written in secretarial script? Makes your head hurt! CORRECTION: I'd misremembered slightly, it's probably in what's called 'secretary' script. I couldn't find an online example of regular text, but here's a sample: http[://]www[.]catholic-history[.]org[.]uk[/]nwchs[/]secretary_hand_script[.]htm Get rid of the square brackets for the address to work. Trust me, it's a pain to read! |

I have just aquired a copy of my wife's Gt Gt Gt Grandfather's will dated 8th Aug 1827 which is fascinating BUT! Is there anyone out there who can read the olde style of writing please? Baz |
