I agree that you should get the cert of one of the children - George born 1883/4 (your grandfather maybe ?) and that will show name of the mother. Note that if she was married to George by the 1881 census then as she was under 21 she would have had to get parents permission; by waiting till 1883 she had become 'of age'.

Is this them in Holborn in 1891? Their oldest child was not born till c1882 so perhaps they delayed the marriage until after the child was born... Name: George Malyon Age: 30 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1861 Relation: Head Spouses's Name: Elizabeth Gender: Male Where Born: Holloway, London, England Civil parish: St Luke Ecclesiastical parish: St Matthews Town: London County/Island: London Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Education: Employment status: View image Registration district: Holborn Sub registration district: Old Street ED, institution, or vessel: 10 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Elizabeth Malyon 29 Elizabeth Malyon 9 George Malyon 30 George Malyon 7 Kate Malyon 2 Rose Malyon 4 I would buy one of the children's birth certificates - your grandfathers perhaps? This will give you the mother's maiden name and might help identify the marriage (if there was one). Lyla

Given his age in 1881 and the fact that there are no children suggests that he is probably only recently married. I wonder if they might not have tied the knot yet and were just living together in 1881? There is a possible marriage in 1883 if that is the case... You have given names from the 1881 Census and I hope that you are confident in this couple being those that you are really seeking. I can see that there were only 4 George Malyon in the age group and one you have selected is only one with wife Elizabeth. Closest I can find as far as Marriage is concerned is in 1877 when a George married Eliza Warman in Ware, Herts. so that is speculation. I think that you need to identify one of their children in a later census 1891 or 1901 in order to pinpoint the couple that you need. any children that you know of ??
