Hello Gwyn, I'm trying to fit in a visit to St. John's Church in Duxford, I grew up there, and as youngsters we were frightened to go near, as people would tell us it was haunted! :)) I've always wanted to see inside, so hoping to get the chance! :)) Hope you have a good Sunday. Chris :) |

I hope you manage to see in the church, Chris. Yesterday I got involved with a trip to Tunbridge Wells, so after shopping we went to High Rocks, which were part of the heritage open days. Massive limestone rocks, weathered into shape, they are open to the public but yesterday viewing was free, with the bonus that we were given an informaton sheet, site map and postcards free too. It made a lovely change and gave us some exercise before the long journey home. Not sure yet about where we will go today. Gwyn |

Hello Gwyn, yes, managed to get there, was really interesting, the Church was so different inside to St Peter's up the road!, very basic, but beautiful, I loved the carvings and initials which people had done, there is a wooden bench full of them in the 1700's, also they put on a display of old photo's and a copy of Terms and Conditions of when it was used as a school in the 1800's, very interesting reading, there are a number of religious drawings done by American servicemen, who were stationed at Duxford during the war, apparently they used the Church as a look-out!. The key is kept at the local post office, so I will be paying another visit... Hope you had a good day out as well Gwyn. Chris :) |
