Latest Instalment:- I recieved Peters death certificate today it says that his daughter 'Mary. Ellen Cosgrove' was the informant. So I know I have the right one. Now I have his date of death I am ringing Liverpool direct tomorrow to see if they can tell me were he was burried and who else (if anyone) is in the same grave. Maybe then I will be able to confirm who his wife was. I will keep you posted. Jayne

These rellies of ours certainly like to make things interesting for us. Keep your chin up! I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for eventually. At least you have some names...on my grandfather's birth cert it gives a completely different name to his marriage cert which says his father was deceased. Having such an unusual name you'd think it would be easy...NOPE....his 'father' from his marriage cert died in 1892 but my grandfather was born in 1908!!!!!! and I can't find a relevant father to the name given on the birth cert! ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!! Keep smiling and make that a LARGE G&T!!!! LOL Good luck xx

Just thought I would let everyone know how I was going on re- Cosgroves. I am getting absolutely nowhere. It seems that Mary Ellen and her siblings were not registered at birth. I have spent quiet a bit of money on this over the last week and I have got nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do next. I cant think of another way to go back another generation. Jayne :-(

Just quick note, I don't have much experience of all this but while searching one of my g.g.g.aunts I found ref to her husband from Liverpool Lancs......however somewhere else (can't remember where-looked at so many census etc! probably freebmd) he was listed as being in 'west derby' which was the old area name including Liverpool, might be worth checking you haven't missed it as I would never have connected the two places. good luck!

Hi Jayne I was just reading your latest installment in the Cosgrove saga and thought it might be easier if I nudged this one up. I was thinking that perhaps it might be an idea to get hold of one of the other children's certs. In 1891 there is a child only 3 days old and in 1901 she is probably Elizabeth age 10. There is only one Elizabeth Cosgrove on FreeBMD in Liverpool 1891 so I wondered if it might be getting hold of that one to see if her dad is Peter. If it is him then you will also have the mothers maiden name as well. Name: Elizabeth Cosgrove Year of Registration: 1891 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Liverpool (1837-1924) County: Lancashire Volume: 8b Page: 21 Lyla

If you can get back into the 1800s with certainty, it gets easier, honest. Rod

Hi Kathlyn That is sound advice. It is just it is every line I have been on it seems to be a dead end within 3 generations. I am starting again. 1 line at a time and with the help of people on here I might be able to sort it out. ( I hope ) Jayne

Come on sweetheart, don`t get too dispondent. I new absolutley nowt about my paternal grandfathers side of the family. it took me 18 months of very hard slogging, two ton on valium and the help of peeps on this site to finally sort it out. I used to take out the only photo I have of Great grandma, and by the way, I did not even know her christian name, and curse her something rotten. But I won in the end, i did sort out what my granddad did and i changed my curses from her to him. he changed his name and did not tell a soul, no one in the family had any idea that he took his mothers maiden name when he was a young man. I have now managed to get back to the early 1800s and surprisingly, once I sorted granddad name change out, it was quite smooth sailing, well as smooth as this hobby can be. So have a stiff G&T, shove the paperwork away for the rest of the day, smile and say....tomorrow...tomorrow...tomorrow. Kathlyn

I dont think the Irish chap in 1891 is the correct Peter because he seems to be still alive in 1901. I wonder if this might be them in 1891 - although the wife's name is wrong the childrem seem to fit. Ok Ancestral here goes. The first line I will pick on is one that has annoyed me for 2 years, The Cosgroves. I have a wedding certificate for Mary Ellen Cosgrove and William Collins June 1905. It says that Mary was 21 years old and that her father was Peter but that he was deceased. I have found this family on the 1901 census. Mary does not have a middle name on there ( I know this doesnt mean anything). Her father is down as being born at Liverpool in 1861. I am sure this is the correct family because they have the Campbells living with them and a Campbell was a witness at Marys wedding. Someone from this site, very kindly found a family on the 1891c, I cant decide weather it is the same family or not As Mary has a middle initial which is 'A' and Peter was born in Ireland and is a bit older. I have ordered a few birth certificates for Mary and none have been correct. I have tried looking for a death for Mary but I cant find one. I thought if I could find a death for her I might find out were she is burried and with a bit of luck she might be burried with members of her family. I know this is a bit long winded but I didnt want to leave anything out. Jayne

My ancestors are laughing at me. I dont think they really existed. On my grandmas side they were all Irish so I can only get back 3 generations. On my grandads side I can only get back to his parents (I think they told fibs about age and name). I dont have any interesting stories (like everyone else). Moan moan moan. I feel a bit better now. I wouldnt really put them all in a locked box. I just need something to go at with them. I just cant think what to do next. A fed up Jayne :(
