how do i start to trace my husbands tree without any certificates? i am doing well with my side but i had a bunch of certs to work from. My husband wants me to start tracing hhis side, i've had a talk with his folks, his mum was adopted and knows nothing about her birth family. His dad gave me lots of names but no dates or places of birth. i have spent ages just plugging names into ancestry but its a needle in a haystack. Some advice would be appreciated if you can please. ta k

Right: Look at his parents marriage certificate, that will give his grandfathers name His dad must have a birth certificate, that will show mothers maiden name, Then you need to find the marriage of his grandparents and obtain that certificate. Get that far first. Then the rest will start to fall into place. Pauline

Karen Remember there was a war on in 1940, were they married, is it possible to get hold of Peter's birth certificate, although he took his fathers name they might not have been married. The mother's name on the certificate will show if she was married or not. They might not have been able to marry until later. If you cant get a look at Peter's you could send for it. A bit sneaky I know. Pauine Going offline line but will look at your thread tomorrow.
