I've got myself in a right pickle here! I am desperatly trying to finish the Varo/Vayro line of my tree as much as I can before my mum's birthday. But I have info in my tree and no idea where I got it from which is my own stupid fault for not writing down the sources I suppose. But now becasue I don't know where its from I'm not 100% sure its right as I got it a while ago when I was only just starting out. If anyone has a bit of spare time and could just see if they can figure out if its right I would be very grateful... I'll put the details I have on the next post cross my fingers! |

It sounds like you have done the same as me. Just this week I found 3 cards and I hadn't a clue where I had got the names from (I have an index card for every person in my tree). It took me ages to work out where I had got the name from so I am now going back to the beginning and making a note of exactly where I have found info for each person - so each census and the number, each certificate etc. If only we knew at the beginning what we know now, we could save ourselves sooooo much time. Hope we can help you out!! |

Frank Varo b 1923 Bradford / Frank Varo b 1898 N Bierley / Edward Varo b 1868 Northamtonshire / John Varo b 11 Apr 1830 Healey, Masham / Thomas Varo, born in East Whitton, died 28 dec 1834 / William Varo Another thing that confuses matters is that they seemed to change the spelling of the surname from Varo to Vayro and back again quite a lot so records are in both spellings! |

What do you want us to do - just see if we can find this info anywhere or look for the whole family on a census?? |

I know I'm ok up to John being the father of Edward. Its the bits before the census that I'm lost on. I have no idea how I came to the conclusion that John's father was Thomas and his father was William. |

Have you checked your certificates? If you have a marriage certificate, that would give you their Father's names? That's where I finally worked out where mine had come from!! Had Dad's names but no Mothers! |

Just to add to your confusion, I have just found a John Varo christened on 25.11.1830 also in Eact Witton, Yorkshire. Parents are James and Mary Varo. Is he one of yours - would fit with your Thomas Varo born in East Witton...... |

OK, I'm getting somewhere I think! Onl;y problem I'm having is with the 1841 census. If you look for my John Varo born c1830 there are a few come up in the same sort of area and some look to almost be duplicates, any ideas on this? |

Emma, Did you find John Varo with young son Edward and wife and/or other children on the 1871 census? That would help you work back through the censuses to find the right John Varo in 1841. Please ignore me if you've already done that though! Linda :o) |

Think I'll have to order a few certificates. Just need to find the references I guess. Do you think that I can get Edward's birth certificate to get his mum's maiden name and then John's marriage cert to get the father's names? Is that the best way to go from here? |
