1901 census free on ancestry

Just discovered this If you enter a name and get a possible match, click on 'view record' and you will get the details of the person. Also, below there will be the names of all the persons who are living with him/her. If you then click on 'view others on page' it will give you some additional details of these people i.e. place of birth & age. This info is FREE !! Terry on the Rock p.s. apols if you are already aware of this.

The 1881 is always free, as it was provided by the LDS site and because theirs is free to search so is Ancestry. Debbie

If you can't view the image or view others in the household then what use is it? Or am I missing something???

And it now says Free Index for a limited period. 1881 still says Free index.

Hi Jeanette I have just been on but and it wont let you view the image or give details on anyone else in the house. Or is this just happening to me (as usual) lol Jayne

Hmmm - what it actually says is 'free index' which isn't quite the same thing. I can't tell if the whole thing is free because I have a sub. Maybe someone who hasn't can enlighten us all? Anne
