Bought myself FTM2006 which has a complimentary 90 day trial to Ancestry. Got my act together and made notes of what I wanted to look up as I have a family album I need to finish by week's end for the MILs 70th birthday. Did you know that the free trial is ONLY for US records?????? That's just great because everything I have to lookup is Canadian and English!! |

Hi Barry. I've got most of the names etc, but it would have been nice to round out the album with some certificates and census images. Oh well........ (Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering???) |

I got the free (American) package with Family Tree Maker too, and have actually had quite a lot of fun with it. I did a tree for a friend of mine from North Carolina, did a few look-ups for people on genes, and last week I found two(!) first cousins 4x removed who had disappeared of the face of the planet after the 1861 census, but turned up in Montana of all places!!! One of them died in 1948 in Los Angeles, and I'm sending off for his death cert tomorrow to see if I can find out more about him. So don't despair, use this free subscription and you never know what might happen. |

no help with censuses, but you can't get certificate images for England and Wales. Ancestry and Freebmd both have free indexes which are transcribed and Ancestry has the complete index images so you can find references and order certificates from the GRO. nell |

Other illustrations might be old and new maps of places ancestors lived photos illustrating typical clothes, or particular occupations You can find lots on the net or from books in your library/bookshop. nell |

Thanks Georgia and Nell. For this album I only needed a couple of census from England; the rest were BMD certificates from Canada. I have most of the information, this was just padding, but I was so looking forward to accessing it. I'm sure I can find use for the free trial -- I have some ancestor's siblings who moved to the States, both from England and Scotland, so I'm sure it will be well used at some point, just not this week........ |

hiya that is most odd, i bought FTM 2005 last yr and had a sub with Ancestry, free for xxx, however I signed up on the US site, and paid in Dollars, (am in uk) but have only ever had access to the Uk and Ireland collection, swapped over from the *com site to the *co*uk site, and havent looked back since!!!!
