Hi Mel. There's still a Convent of the Good Shepherd in Newcastle upon Tyne, although not in Benton Park Rd. If you google Convent of the Good Shepherd Newcastle it comes up with the address. Lots of convents keep archives so perhaps you could try writing to them Good luck! Mog

Hello Mel, Can I ask if your family still live in Newcastle? Because I was thinking it would be an idea to write in to local newspaper, The Evening Chronicle or it's sister paper The Sunday Sun. They often have articles about 'days gone by' and ask readers about certain events that happened locally. In fact the E.C. prints a special edition about once a month on celebrations etc. and there is often features about the 1950s. Hope this helps you. Mau

Any ideas how I can find out about an exhibition held in the grounds of The Convent of the Good Shepherd, Benton Park Road, in the early 1950`s. My Mum used to live on the farm there and remembers weeks of preparation, and it pouring with rain on the day!! No one else seems to remember it and I`ve tried googling with no success. Is my Mother making it up??!! I`d be grateful for any ideas, Mel.
