I've looked at the GRO birth index and it is definitely 1903. Perhaps it would be worth double-checking the parish records to see if it really says 1902 on it, and if it is a mistake? For instance, if there seem to be two sets of baptisms for 1902 and none for 1903? Since age at death is 0 on the deaths index it seems unlikely that she would have been born in the summer of 1902, as she would have been 1 when she died. If you get the birth certificate and the death certificate then you should have definite information. Kate.

Debbie, this is the death entry from FreeBMD: Deaths Dec 1903 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scott Keziah Jane 0 E. Ashford 2a 501 And that 'birth - about 1903' on ancestry will just mean that they calculated her birth year as about 1903 because her age was 0 when she died, so really she could have been born in 1902 or 1903 as far as that goes. I will check the birth entry now I know the spelling.... back in a few minutes... but in the meantime, I still don't know what your sister found in the archives with the date on???? Kate.

Debbie, what is listed on FreeBMD and ancestry as 1903, her birth or her death? If you post up the details then we will be able to check it out or you. It could be that she was born in 1902 and her birth was registered the following year? If she was born in November or December then the six weeks limit for registration could have taken them into 1903. Do you know exactly what your sister found in the archives saying 1902? Kate.

If your girl was born late 1902 then they could both be right,. Parents have 6 weeks to register the birth so say your girl was born late November 1902 her parents may not have got down to the registry office until January 1903. Does the ancestry/bmd entries say the 1st quarter of 1903?
