Unless she was VERY rich, I doubt that she got divorced in 1846. Most people wold have just split with their spouse, and moved to another parish and if they had another partner, either lived as man and wife or got married again bigamously. UPDATE - Sorry - have just read your other thread and she WAS divorced. Kath. x

In 1846, having lost all her children to her husband and divorce being something shameful I would expect she might well have gone back to her maiden name (or even some other name) rather than keep her exhusband's. Victoria

Merry, I've put the details in my last thread about 'missing Agatha'. She's the one having a bit of fun with the family doctor. Pregnant with her sixth at the time, too. No there is nothing normal about any of it. Sorry Merry, didn't realize she was so far down the list. Page three on the board now.

It was so unusual to divorce then, I would say there was no ''usual'' about it!! Where are you looking for her and what are the posible names? Merry

I'm still looking for Agatha. Would it be usual for a woman to revert to her maiden name after a divorce in 1846? I've searched in both names, but just wondering. Thanks.
