I have recently received a copy of a newspaper article about my great grand father's retirement after 60 years at the Barton Rope works. It metioned that he had 16 children, which was a bit of a surprise, as we only knew for definate of 14. It is likely that the other 2 died young, as they certainly weren't on any census. I have managed to find one possible, who died aged 1. What I would like to know is if I checked the parish records for that time, would they state who his parents were? I unfortunately don't have the resources to buy the certs, but will be able to check the parish records. Lynn |

Unfortunately, the burial register probably won't give you the parents names - just the child's name, date of burial, age, and if you're lucky the address (usually just the village name). The certs will usually name the father (for child deaths), also it's quite likely that one of the parents was the informant. So there may be no option other than to buy the certs, I'm afraid. PR varies according to place and time. Always worth a go, especially if you can access them easily. Have you thought of looking in the bp reg - may find the names of your additional children. Jay |

You may need to check the baptism parish register against the one for burials. Although not 100% proof, this might help to find the missing children of the correct couple. Gwyn |

Thanks for that. I will check the baptisms as well, I just thought it might be easier to look at the burials, as baptisms can be done at any time after birth. Lynn |

some burial records say 'the wife of' or 'son r daughter of' Although, If you find the possible burials - these would give you an age and then you could try and find any baptism entries and see who the parents are. |

Thanks Tom, I had thought that, since they were probably quite young when they died, it might mention the parents. Lynn |
