Surprise Surprise, I''ve found them all and even a new family tree member too!, their names were in fact mistranscribed. I just wanted to say a big thank you to all who have responded to this thread as it would not have been possible without your individual inputs!!! |

just as an example - (this might be who you are looking for - on the other hand it may not !!) the following family are shown in the 1851 transcribed as Hamman - but when you look at the image it is definitely Hammond Eliza Hamman abt 1843 Lakenheath, Suffolk, England Daughter Lakenheath Suffolk George Hamman abt 1840 Lakenheath, Suffolk, England Son Lakenheath Suffolk Isaac Hamman abt 1838 Lakenheath, Suffolk, England Son Lakenheath Suffolk Joseph Hamman abt 1848 Lakenheath, Suffolk, England Son Lakenheath Suffolk Rebecca Hamman abt 1835 Mildenhall, Suffolk, England Daughter Lakenheath Suffolk Susan Hamman abt 1802 Mildenhall, Suffolk, England Wife Lakenheath Suffolk Walter Hamman abt 1843 Lakenheath, Suffolk, England Son Lakenheath Suffolk William Hamman abt 1802 Mildenhall, Suffolk, England Head Lakenheath Suffolk William Hamman abt 1829 Mildenhall, Suffolk, England Son Lakenheath Suffolk If this isn´t the right family then give me some more names and I´ll have another look |

It may well be that their name has been mistranscribed. Have you tried looking for them by using their first name and year of birth only? Lakenheath is certainly included in the 1851 census - Go to the Home page on Ancestry - click on 1851 England census - scroll down - click on Suffolk - you will then see all the parishes included - click on Lakenheath and you can see there are 3 enumeration districts with a total of 107 pages of census returns. If all else fails you could scroll through the pages from there - but first I would certainly look for the entries using just first names only in the hope that the surname has simply been mistranscribed. Gives us some names, years and places of birth , and we will see if we can help. |

A surprising number of my family, whilst appearing properly on every census, have one or two children born USA, suggesting the whole family moved there and then came back between censuses. OC |

Ah Paul, that would explain why I can't find my family members on the 1851 census. Thanks for that. Surely there would be a list available of the towns in Suffolk that have had census returns damaged by water.? |

Valerie, you can try Susan Hammond b 02/01/1831 Lakenheath. The only other Hammond's that come up are Eliza, Emma, Isabella, Francis & another Susan who are all not related to my family. That's why I suspect some of the census returns for Lakenheath are missing, these could possibly be another sub-district. Thanks you're a star! |

Sussex is not listed as having missing 1851 pages. Unlike Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Dorset and Yorkshire. Lancashire pages have suffered badly from water damage. |

Thanks Valerie, I'll look for that thread by Merry so I'll know for future reference. John, I've tried all various options whilst searching. Have searched under the county, whole of England, surname only, (names & surname), birth place and even d.o.b.'s and am still getting missing results. |

Have you tried searching with just the county? Or leaving place names blank and searching with Lakenheath as a keyword? J |

Can somebody out there please help me? I suspect that some census returns for 1851 are missing, in particular Lakenheath, Suffolk. I have 11 family tree members (spouses & children incl) who are missing but appear on the 1841 & 1861 census. I find it hard to believe that they could possibly have moved out of the area and return as a family business was in operation. Where do I go from here to confirm if the census returns for Lakenheath are missing or does anyone have the same problem / perhaps know something about this. Your help and guidance on this would be greatly appreciated. |
