Hi Hayley Yes,I've heard of the Pioneer Corps. You are correct in SSAFA (acronym for Soldiers Sailors Airmen and Families Association) They may be able to help you but would certainly be able to point you in the right direction. You could always post some details on here and we may be able to help out. Another good soure (especially if it's WWI) is WWW.1914-18.net. Snowdrops |

You can try Saffa. They deal with all the war widows etc...they pay out the pensions to widows of ex servicemen among other things. |

They're good like that! I was just starting uni when my dad died, and they paid a pension for me while in full time education. It kept his old car going for another 4 years and gave me some independence when I needed it the most. |

Hayley if it was that recent the records will be at Glasgow. Haven't got the details on me right now but there are lots of threads (do a search on this board) which tells you all the contact details for Glasgow. (I have to go off for a while now). If you have no luck I shall check back later and locate the details for you. . |

Yes ssafa are very helpful. When my mum moved in with us my late dad's old regiment (The Black Watch) paid for the hire of a van to bring her stuff across. They were very impressed with his army record from during the second world war which pleased my mum. Lorrainex |

Hayley I've located the address and websites you will need As you don't seem to have his army number I'd suggest getting in touch with SSAFA first, asking them to locate his number if they are able to then follow through on contacting Glasgow - you can download a request form at the mod link: Address to write to: Army Personnel Centre, Historical Disclosures, Mail Point 400, Kentigern House, 65 Brown Street, Glasgow, G2 8EX Website for information/advice: http://www.veteransagency.mod.uk/service_records/service_records.html SSAFA: http://www.ssafa.org.uk/ Snowdrops |
