I have this from the 1901 census (Waygood has been mistranscribed as Woygood) Frederick Waygood Head M 29 Stud Groom Sussex, Ditchland (Ditchling?) Louisa Wife M 25 Herts, Ridge Frederick Son 1 Cambs, Newmarket Percy Son 7m Cambs, Newmarket Dwelling: 17 Baker’s Row, Newmarket I believe the wife is my 2x great Aunt Louisa (nee Lock). I know she was born in Ridge and lived in Newmarket. Her husband was called Fred, and I know she had 6 children altogether. 2 of the children were called Millie and Albert, which also seems to fit in with the above couple (I’ve found births for a Mildred and Albert in Newmarket, births for Frederick and Percy above in Newmarket, and also births for a William and a Florence in Newmarket too). I have also found a birth for a Frederick Waygood in Q1 1872 in Lewes, Sussex. What I can’t find is a marriage for Louisa and Frederick, nor can I find any trace of Frederick on any previous censuses. Just as an added extra, Louisa’s sister, Miriam, also married a Waygood…..Edward Percy, known as Percy (I have a photo of their wedding). Looking back in the censuses it would appear that Percy’s family were also in Ditchling until the beginning of 1871 at least, but there is no Frederick with them in later censuses. But as you can see Frederick does call his 2nd son Percy, making me think that there is a connection between the two of them. Can any of you detectives find Frederick in 1881 and 1891? Or a marriage for Frederick and Louisa, or any ideas where to look next. Jeanette x |

I suppose this is his birth reg? Name: Frederick Waygood Year of Registration: 1872 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Lewes County: Sussex, East Sussex Volume: 2b Page: 170 Maybe his mother married/remarried between his birth and 1881. Then he had stepdad's surname until he left home. This seems to happen a lot! Merry |

Thanks Deb Merry.......yes that's Percy's family in 1871, and Frederick's birth in 1872. I never thought about the mother remarrying. That's happended a few times in my Mum's family, so something to work on there. Good idea! |

I'm really sorry but I can't find anything!!! This is a tricky one! I looked at all the fredericks born in 1872 in Ditchling but none stood out...There were a couple listed as Nephew, inmate and even grandson but that didn't help much!! I might come back to this later.....I like a mystery.. Deb |
