cheers all for your replies I think I will take the first step of contacting the church directly and asking them if I can get the information and if they have it. The details are for my Mum who is still alive so hopefully one of us should be able to access the information (although as yet I've not told her I'm looking - very difficult subject to broach) Z xx |

Hi Zoe. I e-mailed the church where i was baptised to ask how to find out who was who at the baptisum. I had to wait a few weeks but they got back to me with all the info. My mum and dad and my godparents. If you know the church get in touch with them. Vanessa P.S I was born in 1954 |

I don't know what RC churches do with completed baptism registers. Methodist churches in Bedfordshire always send old registers to the County Archives. That might be a good place to start, given that the christening was 50 years ago. J |

Hi Zoe I think you would have to get in touch with the Parish Priest though I doubt he would give out the details as it is so recent. No harm in asking though he can only say no. Try writing him a nice letter. Germaine x |

I am trying to find details of a baptism in the 1950s in hope that it may give a clue to the identity of the childs father I have the name of the church where the christening took place from a baby book and also the details of the godparents - but we don't know anything about the father. The details on the birth certificate have been made up so there's no clue there. As this is fairly recent should I be looking at contacting the church or are they unlikely to provide me with the info? Any help would be great Zoe |
