Can anyone give me any clues on how to find my missing relatives on the 1871 & 1881 Census. I know they were in the Carnforth & Warton, Lancs area from 1868 to 1873 , as 3 children were Christened in Warton. My James Owen was a Stone Mason, probably travelled in his work, but they would have lived some where. Did a lot of people evade the Census? Polly

The best tip is to put as little as possible in the search. Just a first name and place of birth, or even just a year and place. Do this for each of the family and with luck you will find them mistranscribed as you go through the list. Your eyes can spot near misses that the computer cannot. Another tip for big seaches is to make the list show 50 results at a time by clicking on the drop down at the bottom of the list. (You've probably already done that :-) Anne

Gee Maureen , that looks promising, the names and ages fit, even though the surname is not right, did not know of a James, but possible, also William, my GGrandfather was known as Walter, I will look at this in detail, thanks so much. Polly ps will look at the 1881 on LDS as I do not have Ancestry. going now to look, so thanks again

That is interesting as I have checked the LDS and they do not have a match for Isabella Owen but do have one for Isabella Oliver. Wondering where they got their info from as I am certain the image is Owen. Polly, I have saved the image. If you would like it then please send me a pm with your email addy and I will forward it to you. No luck with 1871. Off to my bed and will be back on later today. Maureen

Re the 1881 image...... The surname is actually handwritten as Owen but you can see that the scan has taken the word as Oliver. R
