Thank you for those explanations. It's much more interesting to understand the origins of these words that are no longer in use! l had never heard of it before. Cheers Lyndsey

It basically means a farmer. I had thought it specifically meant someone who works with animals, but apparently it can also mean a crop farmer.

I have a birth certificate for the year 1856 on which the father's occupation is described as 'Husbandman'. Could someone please tell me what a 'Husbandman' was? Many thanks Lyndsey
