Having just bought FTM 2006, am hooked already. I'm sure one of you know the answer to this question! I imported my tree in gedcom format. Have been playng around with all the features. I know that there is an option to have cousins marrying each other on FTM...they are presently there twice, as that's the only way I could show it on GR. Has anyone ever deleted/merged rellies such as these successfully and would like to help me through it? I don't want to go deleting the wrong version of these two people! Thank you so much! Mandy

I can't tell you exactly how to do it as I'm not clever enough (so I'll leave it to someone else), but I have FTM2005, and along the top where it has 'file', 'edit', 'view' etc., if you click on 'people' and then go to the bottom of the drop down menu, there is the option 'merge two specific people'. I don't know if it's the same on FTM2006 but that might be what you need. Kath. x

It really is very simple as the program will do it for you - rather that one of us trying to talk you through it why not go to the help menu and search for - Merging duplicate individuals It explains quite simply what will happen - and also backs up your tree before you start - so that if anything does go wrong (not that it should) you will have a back up!!!

If you have one of the duplicate people on your screen, click on their name and go to 'People' from the menu on the toolbar. Then click on 'merge two specific individuals' at the bottom of the menu. It will then bring up a list of all the people in your tree and you can select the one you want to merge with. It then says 'are you sure John Smith husband of Jane Doe is the same as John Smith husband of Jane Doe?' and you have the option to click yes and merge them or click no. Youcan also choose 'Merge All Duplicate Individuals' from the menu and this will do them all at once but I don;t find it works as well as doing them manually myself. Sam x

- or as Kathleen has said go to People and then merge two specific individuals.
