Thanks for your help everyone. I do have all the parental and sibling details so that helps. Looby you mentioned ordering online? I use the local BMD websites (in this case West Midlands BMD) and I haven't noticed an online ordering facility. Is there another website that I could do this on?? Many thanks again, Em |

Does he have a brother or sister whose birth reg is more easily identified? Maybe one who is aged in months rather than years in 1881 or 1871? Or one with a more unusual name etc etc Merry |

If you order 6 certs with checking points, you pay £7 each for any that match - which will be sent to you - and £3 each for the abortive search for the ones that don't match - and which won't be sent to you. You could send an open cheque for 'not more than £42.00only' or send a cheque for £42 and wait for the refund - or pay by credit card and pay the actual amount (or possibly the full amount and then get a refund - I forget, altho it has happened to me). Emma Do you have him on the '81 and '91 census with parents, in which case you have the full name of his father and christian name of his mother - these checking points should help. If you order on line these together with his details should be enough for them to find him for you and it shouldn't cost you a fortune. Regards Looby |

Yes I do know them, and the siblings - all born in the same area. Daft question but if I request 6 birth certs, do I write the cheque to cover all 6 or just for the one I want? Just wondered if anyone else has been in the same boat? Many thanks. |

Hiya..... If you are looking to order a birth certificate, but there are more than one match for the year of birth, do you have to order each one or will the records office do a search? In my case I have John Taylor born 1872/73 (only going by census so not 100%) in Sedgley, and there are 6 of them! Thanks in advance, Ems |
