I am looking for the birth of Esther Ann Hales around 1866 in Normanville. I believe her mother's maiden name was Sarah Jane Reid. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated!

Hi Paula, I have looked up CD-ROM of SA Birth 1842-1906 for you. Ahh, I found Esther Anne Hayles who was born in 04 Mar 1869 at Normanville and her parents were James Hayles and Jane Reid. I believe this surname is wrong spelling for Hales. And I found her six siblings (all born in Normanville from 1866-1879) with her parents James Hales and Jane Reid/Reed/Read. Another one was Alfred Hailes who was born in 1864 at Normanville and his parents were James Hailes and Jane Peat. He should be a brother of Esther. But I am not sure if you already have Esther's marriage details. She was married to Joseph Dinham at Normanville. If you don't have any of this, I will be happy to give you all their details. Cheers, Steven from Melbourne, Australia.

Thank-You all! I've been offline for a while since posting but am back and will be looking into all suggested sites. Thanks, Steven~ you have the right family! I am assuming I can get copies of the birth certificate from one of the afore mentioned sites? Marriage certs too. I have all certs from NSW but SA is proving to be way more difficult. Anyway, thanks again! I appreciate your time. Paula

Paula, that’s great. I am glad to help you with it. You would try to use http://www.ocba.sa.gov.au/bdm/ and contact them about it. It has online services so you could try to use online services. But I never did it before. It is new to me. I have a registration number for Esther Hales (Hayles). It is Book 74 and pages 13. It might help to find it quickly. A birth certificate will provide name of child, date of birth, place of birth, father’s name, his occupation, mother’s name and maiden name. And a marriage certificate will provide date of marriage, place of marriage, bridegroom’s name, his age (birthplace after 1908), bachelor/widower, occupation, residence, father’s name after 1856, (mother’s name after 1964), bride’s name, her age, (birthplace not until 1908), spinster/widow, occupation, residence and father’s name after 1856. I hope it will help you. Regards, Steven
