AWOL records?

Hi, i believe my gg grandad went AWOL from the army. would there be anything online that might show him as missing or wanted? Its probably around the 1880's

Robyne I believe you will only be able to see this as part of his personnel records - when did he serve/leave the army?

he was born in 1862 and i believe he recieved a medal from the Zulu war. I know he had definately changed his name by 1895, and my grandads cousin is sending me some info which she says will have his records in. But as she didnt know what had happened i presumed they werent in his records, so was hoping maybe there was something online for him being wanted. Oh well i guess i will just have to be patient!

Wait and see what you get through - if his personnel records aren't included you should be able to locate them at Kew for the time period you are speaking of. I was lucky and got my great granddad's from there - his signature was on there (that was fantastic) along with the fact he had tattoos and how tall he was, colour of his eyes etc etc etc - well worth getting!

Robyne do you mind saying which county you are from as my OH is an Oliver from Kent and I'm going to start his tree at some point! Cazxxx
