May to Mary is a very common mis-transcription. The GRO index does say Mary for the Kensington birth, but this may not be what is on the birth cert! Merry

Do you have her marriage cert? If you had the details of her father from this, it might be possible to find him on the 1901 census and see where he wasliving, which might help with deciding whether the Q4 1901 birth reg (Kensington) is the one or not. Merry

If she was born on 13th Sept she might well have been registered during the Oct-Dec quarter of that year (Q4). You got (still do get) 42 days to register a birth. Merry

Hi Jenny The 1901 census was taken on 31st March so she would be too young to be on there. As for the death cert - they're not forced to be accurate as you're relying on whoever the informant was to know the full details. Debby

HI, I have a question. I have managed to get hold of a death record for a Edith May Downard now I know that this is my great Nan, and her maiden name is Sparkes, I know this is true as I have a copy of the marriage cert. Now on the Death record it say that her DOB is 13 se 1901 which I presume is september 1901. I have searched the record on the census and cannot seem to find her and also cannt seem to find her birth cert either. I have found Edith Mary sparkes in the oct records. but these do not see to match up with anything on the census. Please could some one advise on any other route that I could look at please, I am under the impression that she would have been around the edmonton area i think. but who knows I have been given wrong info by the rellies in the past !! lol Thanks Jenny
