Sorry a bit of a daft question. Is there anywhere to find up to date census from 1911 onwards. I am having real trouble searching my grandads family, even though I knew him well before he died. He has no record of his birth in the BMD, even though I know his exact birth date. He was born in Tyne and Wear which should come up in the English BMD, but still no luck. There is a family member I am waiting to contact, who will know some more, but I thought before I can find out anything from her I might be able to find out some further information from the census. Thanks Abby |

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for Ralph Oliver born June 1914, Tyne and Wear. Married Margaret Gate 1943 (have found marriage record already). I don't know what his parents names were at all. My mum is looking for the old family bible that will give me a bit more information, but it is somewhere in the loft!! Thanks for the help. Abby |

As you have both the husband and wife's names, and a close approximation of the marriage date you can apply for the Marriage Certificate. This will give you the names of both their fathers. And you have enough info to apply for his birth cert too which will also give his mothers name and maiden surname. |

You don't say the date in June 1914, but you had 42 days to register a birth, so maybe he was reg in the July-Sept Quarter (Q3) Surname Forename Mothers maiden name District Page No Event Quarter Year Oliver Ralph Mason Gateshead.10a 2345 Birth 3 1914 The above registration is in Q3 Merry |

Well, looks like you have his mothers name as Mason there. You do need to buy certificates to get the names of his parents. You get those from the official GRO site - if you have the ref (as given above) they cost £7 each online. |
