I've got the details of my Great Grandfather, and the references to his first and second marriage. He was a bit of a devil, as on most census images, he never gave the same ages or place of birth. What I am most interested in finding out, is the name of his second wife and the details of their daughter. His name is Frederick Waters, born around 1855 (could be a couple of years either way) and died in 1926. His first marriage was to Maria Cross Oct Nov Dec 1883 at Tunbridge. His second marriage was Jan Feb Mar 1909 Faversham. Unfortunately at this time, it does not give the name of whom he married. By 1912, he and his new wife were living in Perth Australia and in his letter he mentions 'Little Margie' (I assume Marjorie) pulling herself up on the furniture, so it sounds like they had a daughter around 1911. I would dearly love to find any details of her or her mother, but don't know how. Would I be able to just send for the marriage certificate if I only have Frederick's details, or would I need those of his wife too? I can't see any other way of finding out who he married and whether his daughter was born in England or Australia and what name she was registered in. I do know that his second marriage didn't last, and it is quite likely that the lady in question then went off and remarried. I would still like to find out about them though. Does anyone have any clues how I can go from here as I have hit a brick wall. Many thanks! |

I am bothered!!! How do you know the Faversham marriage is the right one? At present on FreeBMD only one bride is transcribed to fit with the two grooms: Marriages Mar 1909 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOGBEN Emma Faversham 2a 1338 SPICKETT William Faversham 2a 1338 WATERS Frederick Faversham 2a 1338 However, it would seem that Miss Hogben married this Mr Waters, as there are three children born in Faversham district after the marriage (below) plus a possible in Blean.......so this couple would not appear to have left the country...... No Surname Forenames Mothers maiden name District Page No Event Quarter Year 1 Waters George I Hogben Faversham.2a 2719 Birth 4 1915 2 Waters Ivy M Hogben Faversham.2a 1511 Birth 2 1918 3 Waters Lucy O Hogban Faversham.2a 2187 Birth 2 1920 4 Waters Stanley J Hogbin Blean.2a 1757 Birth 4 1911 Merry |

Oh good, glad someone came along that knows more than me. Hi Merry! Gerry: I too wonder how you know this is the correct marriage. Do you have some evidence that they definately got married in 1909 in Faversham? Helen |

There's no Marjorie (or similar) Waters born in Western Australia in the right period. I can't see a death for Frederick either. You can search WA BMDs here: http://makeashorterlink*com/?O1D425D8D (replace asterisk with dot) In view of his age, I suppose Margie might be a grandchild. |

My father's two older siblings were born in Western Australia (maybe Dwellingup) in 1915 and 1917 respectively. But these births do not come up on the database!! Victoria |
