Hi all, I am desperately trying to find Alverthorpe Road, in Alverthorpe Wakefield West Yorkshire in 1871. on Ancestry . I am possibly going about it all wrong. Cannot find it, on the census, and I know it must be there. I have trawled through enumeration districts, one of my rellys died there in 1871 so I know it existed. It is the road in particular that I need. Any help please? Denise. |

Would that be a road in Alverthorpe cum Thornes? There are 204 people living in that road in 1881, so I would try looking up a few of those people on the 1871 to see if you get lucky! Merry |

It's still there, just off Dewsbury Road in Wakefield. Try streetmap*co*uk |

Hi Denise, I have found the end of it, Well the bottom end of it anyway! It Joins Westgate End in South Westgate Ward. I'm using a Godfrey edition map here which covers South Wakefield in 1893 but I doubt if the roads changed too much! Might I suggest visiting Wakefield Family History Sharing, it's a very good site for all things Wakefield! Best of luck. Helen. |

Matbe the street name wasn't added to the census in 1871? Then you wouldn't know you were looking at it! I take it your rellie died before the census? Merry |

Hi, Alverthorpe Road is near to me and has always been commonly referred to as 'New Scarborough' (there is a pub of that name, but doesn't look that old!) Batley Road (which becomes Balne lane round about the top of Alverthorpe Road) runs across the top of it and Westgate runs at the bottom of it. Don't know if this may be of any use in checking where it is! Wakefield Ref & Info library 01924 302230 has local studies section which may be able to help you. |
