My great great grandfather Frederick Cornelius Rudd is on the 1871 census with his wife Sarah and their one year old daughter. I've found the marraige reference on freebmd Marriages Sep 1869 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RUDD Frederick Cornelius Mutford 4a However on the page with him is only his sister Harriet, a Robert Wilson and a Robert Smith. It's conceivable he had a joint marraige with his sister, but why the two men and no Sarah?? very puzzled..can anyone help?

There should probably be three marriages.........two 'brides' have not been transcribed, for some reason. Have you checked the images to ascertain that the transcriptions ar accurate? Reg

If you check the complete images on Ancestry you will see that the reference is actually Frederick Cornelius Mudd Mutford 4a, 1041. this matches the following Sarah on free BMD Marriages Sep 1869 PITCHERS Sarah Mutford 4a 1041

The marriage is on IGI and they confirm Sarah Pitchers Just to add: 10 AUG 1869 Somerleyton, Suffolk, England

Sarah has probably not been transcribed yet, if you know her maiden name you can look it up on the images. You already have the information to go directly the the page, provided you know her name. Jennifer

That part of the index may not have been Tanscribed on FreeBMD yet.

I think its just a question of Frederick having been mistransribed! Sarah has been transcribed correclty.

Only three had the image function available and they all checked out fine. I did have the full reference but it didn't paste here proparly. That sounds like the right one Emily. How did you find it, can you search by reference? is so I didn't realise and that's probably where I was going wrong I normally just click and check who is on the same page, normally it works never come across this kind of problem with it before.

'At least you have another marriage in your family too. You can check which man the sister married by searching for her with those surnames on the 1871 census' Yes was just off to do that! Thanks for the help Ann

If I ever look up a marriage on the freeBMD website, and find more than two couples recorded, then the first thing I do is to check the reference on the complete images on Ancestry - which is what I did in this case. http://www.ancestry(.)co(.)uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Here you will see that the reference for Frederick is Mutford 4a, 1041. - then go back to freeBMD - select Mutford - the year, the quarter, volume and page number - plus the brides first name of Sarah - and you will see that the only matching recored is that of Sarah Pitchers (which in this case has been backed up by the IGI)

Confused with the message boards tonight !!! If there is anyone out there who is trying to log on - I wouldn´t bother. I expect the GR team have gone home long ago and you don´t stand any chance of anything happening on here until tomorrow morning at the earliest. Now - any suggestions of where we can go and play tonight and get some good genealogical advice and help !!!!!

Come on GR - any chance we could have this site up and running today. There must be so many people waiting on the sidelines and ready to post!
