Oh Dur! I'm so simple!! I've only been doing this for a couple of years. You'd have thought I'd have learned. I have been trawling BMD's and IGI.

Claire, if you can get the birth certificate for one of Henry's children it will tell you the mother's name, which should help a lot. Kate.

Oh and Henry was born in Northamptonshire, Gt billing and the family all seem to have stuck around that area.

I am looking for confirmation of a marriage between Henry Britten born (1817) and Caroline (surname not known) She is listed as his wife on all the census returns but I can't find evidence of a marriage. I am particularly keen to get correct evidence of this marriage as my grandfather remembers talk about an older sister called Caroline bringing some children up due to a second marriage or early death. The details here were a bit sketchy which leads me to believe something is not quite right. Henry (B C1817) according to some research that I have been given (than you Carol) had a sister called Caroline born in 1819 who died in infancy and another sister born C1821 who was named Caroline. According to census info, he MARRIED a Caroline Born C 1820. It is this marriage I can't find and I think he MAY be living with his sister who according to family talk, helped him bring up the children. Now I am sooooo confused and I expect you all are too now. I need to go and lie down in a dark room.......
