2 Marriage look ups please !!!

Could someone please help me I'm floundering ,trying to tie up my 2 main branches of my tree . I can't work out the 2 ladies who married my Gt grandfathers . The names are WALKER _GEORGE b1821 in Donegal later living in Liverpool --- possible spouse could be ELIZABETH( certain ) MAHONEY b 1831 Belfast .She had 2 brothers John & William MCWHINNEY but the closest name & person I can find is MAHONEY Married in Liverpool 1855 . Is this correct McNEILL Arthur I am skipping a generation to fnd my gt grandmothers surname .My grandfther also was Arthur Mcneil b1861 in Ireland no records available. His brother John William & father( wife MARY) worked a farm in Leitrim Ireland.I can find a Marriage for Arthur & Mary in 1842 in Liverpool I daon't know how to find out if they are the right people & I need their names to send for their certiicates to authenticate ( I'm in AUSTRALIA ) it makes it difficult

Hi Nancy, I've been searching for you, Have found the marriage of George and Elizabeth, but could not find the marriage for Arthur and Mary. I did find some other marriages don't know if they belong to your family. James Mcniell DOB abt 1811 Ireland. Wife Mary DOB abt 1815 Ireland. Civil Parish-Skemersdale. County- Lancashire england. Address- Tawd Lane The kilns. Occupation- Annuitant. Reg District- Ormskirk. Sub Reg District- Lathom. Ed- Institution 12. Son- James DOB abt 1839 Ireland. Occupation- Grocer. Info same as above. William John Mcniell DOb abt 1841 Ireland. Wife Alice Dob abt 1848 Bolton Lancashire. Civil Parish Caselton. County Lancashire. Street Address 15 Priestley Square. Occupation (Alice), Cotton Weaver. Reg District Rochdale. Sub Reg Dist Castleton Weaver. ED or Institution 5. Son James Mcann DOB abt 1867. Hope this is of some use to you. LOL, Barbara in Suffolk.

I'm not sure I completely understand all of your question, but for one thing, it is not a good idea to 'skip a generation'. You would be best to work backwards from the certificates that you already have, going from one person's birth certificate to their parents' marriage certificate and then to the parents' birth certificates and so on, though once you get back to Ireland it is going to be more difficult, especially as Civil Registration didn't start there as early as it did in England and Wales. But the first marriage you mention, you should be able to get the birth cert of whichever of their children is your ancestor, and that will tell you the mother's maiden name, and then you will be able to look for the marriage. Or have I misunderstood? Do you already have a birth cert with the mother's maiden name on it? Kate.
