Beware of giving access to your tree

Sadly it is becoming a common problem on this site, and others too (how many Ancestry trees are copied without knowledge i wonder) Granting access doesn't mean you give permission to reproduce your tree in whole or in part. I stopped adding to GR some time ago,and keep all my research on other software. I can and do share this with genuine relatives, but my info on some descendants extends to five or six pages of details, not just birth, marriage and death details, but lots of detail from census returns, occupation documents, letters and wills etc. If a third cousin twice removed of my grt grannys half sister contacted me then i would just share the basic details, the things that are easier to find(census and bmd),only expanding on it if there is something that may spur something special in return. It doesn't happen very often though. Glen

I put the barest minimum of relatives and info on GR tree. When people make contact, I've found that if they are genuine - and mostly they are - its best to exchange private e-mails and swap information that way, often using gedcom to export my main tree which isn't on GR. nell

This has never happened to me up until now,,,someone has asked to view my tree as we have a mutual ancestor,,,and they said that they would also give me access to theirs. I allowed,,,,they didnt bother and now have copied a lot of my names, I know this because their name appears against a lot more relevent names than it did before, I can only assume they have harvested my apples..
