If you have Gloucestershire relatives, the Gloucester Gaol Register index up to 1870s is online on the Gloucestershire Archives website. I found one of my ancestors had been done for stealing firewood from Lord Stowell. I bet my ancestor needed firewood more than his Lordship! Underneath his entry was a 13-year-old girl, no parents, who was tried for stealing a pair of boots, poor waif! |

In my daughters fathers family, there are a family full of thieves. Theyre her direct descendants! His modern day relatives are also regularly in the paper for dodgy dealings too....it makes me worry about my little girl, hope its not in her genes. UPDATE: Just found out the man in question was a highwayman too!! |

Never found any of mine on there (they're all angels - except for the mad axe murderer). But I do enjoy reading it for all the gossip anyway!! |

I found an ancestor on here - a victim of a street mugging in 1822. Very useful as it established that he had already arrived in London from the US. |
