My great grandfather died in March 1928 in Kettering, Northants. Now here is my quandary – where do I start to look for his grave – I know that my grandparents weren’t buried with him as they were both cremated at Kettering crematorium. At present there are 5 cemetaries within Kettering district, but I don’t know how long they have been in use and which ones would have been in use at that time. I have tried emailing the correct department at Kettering council, but so far have had no reply. So, the question is, does anyone know how I can trace which cemeteries would have been in use in the 1920’s and, as I know which church the funeral would have been in, where there burials would have taken place – I know this particular church does not have its own cemetery. Sorry for rambling, but any ideas gratefully received. Many thanks Looby

Just an idea, is it possible to call the cemeteries? or maybe a local funeral home? Helen

I would phone the council offices in Kettering and ask for the cemeteries department. Most large cemeteries have their records on computer these days and should be able to help you if you have the full name and date of death. At our local cemetery, you only need to give them a surname and they can tell you anyone of that name buried in any of the cemeteries (past and present) in their area where there is someone of that name buried, along with grave and plot numbers. Hi, I don't know how it works in northants. But where I live (the midlands) the local crems now deal with all the cemeteries. On the council web site it details all the cemeteries and crems and when they were opened or stopped being used. That's how I try and work out where my lot might have been put Linda

If you need someone to go and visit any cemeteries, I visit Kettering 2-3 times a week, so happy to go look for you. JoJo

Thanks all - especially Jo Jo, spooky, but after writing this had an email from cemetaries dept. of the council with some, but not all, of the info I needed, but thank you all anyway. Regards Looby
