Can anyone advise as to whether you can get more details from the SSDI, other than what shows on Ancestry or the IGI. If you can where do you have to apply for further info.........Thanks |

You'd be able to get the death cert. I don't think you'd be able to get any info using the SSN that's a government tracking # like the national insurance number there. I could be wrong . Helen |

Thanks Helen. Can you apply for a death cert with the SSI number or would you need to do it by some other means. I have no idea how the American system works. |

You'll want to go here to order the cert. As it's more than 25 yrs ago you don't need to worry about the additional need for your drivers license or SSN. $20 in USD is about 10 pounds. If you need to have it posted to someone in america let me know you can have it sent to me and I can send it on to you if neccesary. Hopefully this'll do the trick but if you need more help let me know. I'm off to bed soon but can get back to you in the morning. Helen http://www*texasonline*com/tolapp/ovra/index*jsp Replace * with , Death Certificate Information Death Certificates for deaths that occurred in Texas from 1903 to the present can be ordered online. You can order SS information directly from Rootsweb's Social Security Death Index site: http://ssdi.rootsweb*.com/ Remember to remove the * from the address. The site also explains what the SS # are use for and what information can be obtained from ordering the cert. Judy |

This is a good site for SSDI and other databases: http://www.familytreelegends.*com/records (remove *) I have recently sent off for a copy of the SSN application by someone whom I believe to be my long-lost grandfather! I think the cost was $27. One site did warn that you can have to wait months. Christine |
