I've just read on another thread that Paul has had an unsuccessful Bank Holiday Weekend, so I thought I'd let you know about my Successful One. |

I have recently been put in touch with a cousin in Australia, thanks to help from Margaret on this site. On Saturday, I received a letter from him, including lots of photos and an article about my great grandfather's retirement from the Barton Ropeworks in 1933. This article was particularly interesting, as it mentioned that he had 16 children (so far we had only known of 14) and it also had a bit of detail about his career there and the fact that he had taken over the job of Foreman from his father. There was also a fantastic family photo, which we have now worked out was of a wedding and showed 11 of the children, including my grandma. When I showed the photo to my family over the weekend, both my mother and eldest sister noticed that my niece bore a striking resemblence to my grandmother, particularly when compared to an early photo. So I would say I had a very successful weekend, which has given me 2 more children to find. Lynn |

Actually Lynn, I have to confess that my weekend was only unsuccessful by my current standards. If I had achieved the same results two years ago I'd have been cock-a-hoop. As I become more experienced, my expectations change. (That reference to the Barton Ropeworks..... I wondered where all my deleted threads went!) |

I hadn't realised you were such a perfectionist Paul LOL. Not sure that I understood the reference to your deleted threads? Lynn Oh, now I think I get it, very funny! |

And I thought I had done well by finding two relevant entries in the Record Office (connected by marriage but mainly for a contact in the States) and identifying the death of my wife's great grandfather (then sending for the certificate). |
