Thanks to all your info I have found records for both Maternal and Paternal Grandfathers. Maternal discharged with wounds , lost a leg,and paternal died some years later from gassing during the war. My Mat: gran a bit unlucky lost 1st hubby in Boer and 2nd hubby lost leg in 1914-1918 Thanks again Sunny

Documents Online has all sorts of goodies in the form of pdf files. You choose what you want (if anything) and pay by credit card and the e-mail you the file immediately - tho' you have a few weeks to get the download sorted, if you want to take that long. Christine

Yes, the National Archives (used to be called the Public Record Office) - look up his medal card and download a copy for £3.50 tonight! Casualties are listed on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site but if he survived the war he's not going to be listed.

my late grandfather was in the 1914-18 war. He lost a leg and i never knew how. Is there a site which would tell me if he was in the war please? Sunny
