If you phone them, they will send you an information pack that lists what you need to send I don't think you will get amy WWI records, most were destroyed after bombings in WWII I believe. I got my Grandads and I had to send a copy of his death cert and my mum had to sign the form (as next of kin). It cost £30 and I received them in about 4 weeks. Sam x

Thanks very much Nell, i will give them a ring and hopefully they can tell me what i need to do to ensure i send everything i need. Glen-what a bugger, luckily i have everything i (hopefully) need. Also my mum was the only child born in wedlock out of 8 so they shouldnt query her being next of kin! Many thanks again

The records are available to next of kin (or with the written permission of next of kin they can be supplied to another party, but it is dodgy ground. It's to do with data protection and all the misunderstanding that goes with it). The records i wanted were for my birth father, but without a death cert and proof of relationship i was scuppered straight away. Glen

Hi, just reading someone elses thread on something similar and have a question. My grandad fought in both world wars and died in 1972. I have a copy of his death cert, my nan and grandads marriage cert and my mums birth cert. Do i have to apply to get them and wait ages, or are they available for me to get myself or for my mum to? Many thanks
