Thanks for that Wendy. I need to look into this a bit more now. At the moment it still is a puzzle but hey ho... Wilf

Maybe it was just a note that although he is down as a visitor he was a local traveller, meaning not from outside the area?

Hi WIlf, perhaps he used to travel to different mines. Just a thought. You know go where the work was. Sue

I did wonder if it was that Sue but it doesn't make any sense. He is staying with his daughter Jessie Dudley. That is if I am right about it being my G. Grandfather. Thanks for looking:-)

Wilf, I've taken a look, could it be local traveller? Sue

Thanks for looking Helen. I'm at a loss too. If I am right this man is my Great Grandfather and he has been recorded on this census twice. I appreciate you taking the time to look though Wilf :-)

It looks like 'tre-ilier' which makes no sense. I wonder if its meant to be traveller, though again I can't see what this has to do with his occupation, and it doesn't seem to refer to the chap above him.

I am hoping someone may be able to work out a word on this image for me. Its the 1901 census, RG13, piece 3361, folio 64, page 7. The name i'm looking at is Thomas Lewis born Worthen. His occupation states correctly retired lead miner underground. It is the two words written above this. The first I think is local but I have no idea about the second. Thanks
