I've been researching my Family Tree for some time now using the 'ancestry.co.uk' site. I've taken a breather for a couple of months and when I've tried to go back on site, it seems to have disappeared. Can anyone advise me as to what has happened or is going on?....................

Ancestry is still there, www.ancestry(.)co(.)uk remove brackets. Glen

Thanks Glen for that. I've just tried again and the page has appeared blank on my screen. Excuse my ignorance, but do you have any idea what is wrong. Nothing at all is appearing for me, not even the home page for the site.

Donna, I had the same problem on my work pc. I think it is something to do with cookies ??? which I do not understand. Anyway I got round my problem by googling ancestry & getting on via one of the links.

Bit of info for you: A cookie is a piece of information in the form of a very small text file that is placed on an internet user's hard drive. It is generated by a web page server, which is basically the computer that operates a web site. The information the cookie contains is set by the server and it can be used by that server whenever the user visits the site. A cookie can be thought of as an internet user's identification card, which tell a web site when the user has returned. Cookies make the interaction between users and web sites faster and easier. Without cookies, it would be very difficult for a web site to allow a visitor to fill up a shopping cart or to remember the user's preferences or registration details for a future visit. Web sites use cookies mainly because they save time and make the browsing experience more efficient and enjoyable. Web sites often use cookies for the purposes of collecting demographic information about their users. Cookies enable web sites to monitor their users' web surfing habits and profile them for marketing purposes (for example, to find out which products or services they are interested in and send them targeted advertisements). Internet Explorer saves cookies in more than one location, depending on the version of the browser and the version of Microsoft Windows being used. The best way to find and delete them is to close Internet Explorer then use your file management software (such as Windows Explorer) and search for a folder called 'cookies'.
