2nd Cousin mentioned 2 names Rose (or Rosie) and Lily and a place Stoke Park. From there I found her quite easily. She wasn't living at home she must have been in service when she was 15 but, I would like to issue a word of warning. Yes it's good to glean what you can from older members of the family but don't rely on what they say without backing it up with other proof. As I have said my mother always told me that her mother came from Bishopstoke. No, BASINGSTOKE |

Glad you found your Granny. Would just like to add that I have also been led up the garden path following info given by family. Practically everything my Dad has told me has turned out to be a load of cobblers!! Whether he has just gotten confused or whether the wrong tales have been passed down - who knows. Don't dismiss something out of hand completely just because it doesn't tally with what you've been told. Work round it a bit and see if what you've been told is actually true or whether they have got it wrong - could save a lot of messing in the long run. |

You ain't kidding kid. I do feel quite emotional because although she died 21 years before I was born I have a lot of her bits and pieces and even a letter she wrote to my grandfather during WWI. I felt cheated because she was only 35 and the second wife lived to be 103. Life just ain't fair at times. Gloria |

Re: Bishopstoke/Basingstoke Often we mishear things. Only recently did I discover that a relative of mine had surname Fennessy. I'd always thought it was Hennessy!!! nell |

bishopstoke, Basingstoke, easy mistake to make and still in Hampshire Lol! Just a few miles apart! Ann Glos , who has spent many hours trawling around the Bishopstoke area for rellies. And whose daughter actually lived there for a while 18 years ago. |

The trouble was my mother was so adamant that she was born in Bistopstoke (Edith that is) funny thing is she's buried there. |
