I need help with identifying a relative in a photo. I have two possibilities as to who it is but I'm lousy at judging ages. Could you take a look at the photo on Tribal pages (id= jan666) If you go to the picture of Florence Tocqueville, I'm trying to identify the woman on the left. Thanks for your help, Janet |

Presuming the three ladies in the picture are related and of 3 generations.....I'd say she was anywhere between 35-45, depending on if she looked old/young for her age. I may be totally off, but we can only try! |

Thanks. The problem is I got the photo from my cousin and she has described the woman as my great Aunt Jessica but I think it may be great Aunt Florence. The only one I can identify for certain is the other Florence on the right. (My cousins Mum) Do you think there is a family resemblance between the two on the left? |

Janet, I'm no expert, but I'd say the three ladies resemble each other. Look at the area in the cheeks between the eyes and the bottom of the chin, particularly in the two loder ladies. The younger two have the same nose! |

I think you've muddied the waters but thy're starting to clear now :-) Jessica was related by marriage and would have been 50 when the picture was taken whereas Florence would have been 35 and was the daughter of the lady in the middle (who would have been 75) If only she'd shown us her left hand rather than her cigarette in the right! |

I would not have said she was 50 thats the oldest I would have said mainly because they looked a lot older than they were in those days. |

Thats why I wanted to discount her. From looking at census I think Jessica may have been orphaned at a fairly young age (Need to investigate more) and i can only find her siblings in service or the workhouse. She had a hard life and died in horrific circumstances during the war. |
