hi everyone! I have recently purchased a copy of my grandfather's marriage certificate from 1928, but as it turns out I am finding it extremely difficult to read, which is quite important as it is the key to tracing my tree. The most important thing is reading the name of the wife's father, which we need to keep going with the tree. If anyone can help me, please let me know! thank you jackie |

Jackie, I think you may be right, I think it is Luther! What's the bride's name? I can see it's something Florence! |

|
Jackie | Report | 28 Aug 2006 12:20 |
the bride is definately Ceceily Florence Farrant who became Simmonds when she married. you may find her in records as Cissy, which is what i have noticed along my travels |

Have found this info on Ancestry, I know it's miles away and the age is about 3 years out if she was born in 1898....but you never know. I couldn't find any combination of Cecily or Cissy 1901 England Census Record about Florence Farrant Name: Florence Farrant Age: 6 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1895 Relation: Daughter Father's name: Luther Mother's name: Annie Gender: Female Where born: Uckfield, Sussex, England Civil parish: Uckfield Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Cross Town: Uckfield County/Island: Sussex Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Education: Employment status: View image Registration district: Uckfield Sub-registration district: Isfield ED, institution, or vessel: 1 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 15 Household Members: Name Age Alexander Farrant 4 Annie Farrant 33 Edith Farrant 3 Ellen Farrant 10 Florence Farrant 6 Luther Farrant 43 May Farrant 1 The father is a bricklayer....and a builder on your mariage certificate! |

Yes, it was Pennycross in the marriage, but the 1901 census was 27 years earlier. Do you know if they always lived there? I had this problem of recognising the initial letter of a name for years....it was definitely an F on the daughter's birth certificate, but on the son's birth/death certificate it was an L! I think my doctor writes better than this registrar! |

There's someone on Ancestry who has a public tree with a Luther Farrant born Buxted, Sussex. Married an Alice, but no daughter Florence/cecily or similar |
