Annie My dad collected TAPS. WE had no connection with taps as far as I know - at least your drain cover has a bit of significance. OC

The main claim to fame of Kelston the village that my father came from is that it is claimed to be the site of Mr. Crapper's first flush toilet.

I imagine your ancestors are rolling about in their graves laughing at the thought that you've photographed a drain cover!!! On the subject of drainage and Gloucestershire, I was looking at my Glos grandfather's letters the other day. He wrote one to my grandmother saying that before WW1 he helped the blacksmith Mr Tarrant to lay the water mains on for the Doctor in Rendcomb. Just imagine - running water in your own home!!!! nell

I have just found a good section of Gloucestershire wills on Genuki. Just follow the links to Gloucestershire then choose Wills. There was a family legend that I was related to the Bush and Wilton iron foundry company. My maiden name was Wilton. Browsing the bush wills I found a Blacksmith shop and tools passing through several generations of Bushes. John Bush's daughter Virtue married Frederick Wilton my grandfather's cousin and by 1901 he is listed as Iron founder employing his grandsons Alick and Frederick Wilton as Iron moulders. I had help on this one from the webmaster of Bitton families and she found that the original shop is now a listed building. (Yesterday I had a trip to photograph it) and she even sent me a picture of a Bush and Wilton drain cover from a site on cast iron street furniture. Not as glamourous as Old Crone's Cocos and Turk Islands but it made my day.
