Censuses 1841-1901 are online on www.ancestry*co.uk and some other sites have some of the censuses, but not all. All county records offices have the censuses for their area and the complete set is available on microfilm at the Family Records Centre which also have microfiche. General Register Office (GRO) births, marriages and deaths indexes are available in big books at the Family Records Centre. They are also on microfiche at various libraries and archives around the country. Additionally, they are free to view on www.ancestry*co.uk as well as on various payperview sites. nell

To answer the second question, 1901 is the last census in the public domain. We still have a few years to wait for 1911 to be released. J

Births can be looked up on ancestry.com, and so long as you know the mother's maiden name and rough date and place of birth it's a fairly simple process to search. If you don't have access to Ancestry, post the details and we can have a look. I pray the names are not too common, though.... if you say Smith or Jones it may be a much lengthier process!

Hi I need some advice. I have some gaps regarding my grandfather's siblings. I've tried living relatives, but to no avail. They are between 1920 and 1936. What do I do next? Are the Censuses on microfiche? I look forward to your help. Thanks Karen
