A couple of my ancestors died of phthisis pulmonalis but on my 2xgr grandmother's it is followed by the words '6 months', why does it say this? Does this mean she had the condition for six months? Thanks Daisy

In a word Yes. Any timescale quoted means the condition was known to have been ongoing for a while, Glen

It means its been known about for 6 months. Of course its highly likely that people had illnesses for a while before diagnosis. It cost to go and see a doctor - it wasn't easy to get time off work. Plus, the doctor didn't have fancy x-rays and mri scanners and whatnot either. nell
