I'm interested in the Jarrow March as my great uncle (my grandmothers brothers)- John Edward Vincent was one of the Marchers and would like to try and find any photos of him & more info about the March. Thanks Sian

I wouldn't have thought it was a cause of celebration. I suggest you contact the Jarrow local council as they would probably be organising such an event or at least know who is. nell

Similarly, I am sure the relevant local archive and/or local history centre would have photos and info about the Jarrow March and probably working class movement archives - google to find out more. nell

Sian I didn't mean to question your words, just I'm not sure that this event would be considered of interest now. It's not as though we have any workers' parties any more! The Labour movement seems very irrelevant now.

Good on him! I had a friend who lived in a close with someone who fought in the Spanish war alongside George Orwell. Do you know the picture about the Jarrow marchers? I can't recall who did it, but its a posh evening party and they are looking out of their windows down onto the marchers arriving in London. A real rich-poor divide. I remember thinking how the divide is still there when I was once in the Brixton riots (long story) and a few days later shopping in Harrods! nell

Hi 'seasons' I have a book about the Jarrow March and it lists the names of all the marchers . I live in Cardiff but I'm planning to visit the South Shields/Jarrow area do some FT hunting - gravestones, record office etc & was hoping to see an exhibition on the March. Ive looked at South Tyneside Council website & looks like they are planning an exhibition at Jarrow Town hall soon. Do you live in the area?

If you Google - Jarrow Marchers+photos - there are a few photos to be found, but I doubt whether you will find photos of particular people.
