If your using XP, there is a little program available from Microsoft called Image Resizer, it adds a right click menu option, which allows you to resize images easily. www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx Just look for ImageResizer on the right hand side. Stu.

One way of reducing the file size of a JPEG file of a b/w photo is to ensure it's saved as monochrome, not colour. Then with your photo editing program reduce its resolution in 10% steps, checking that it is still sharp. You can generally go down to about 75% without losing noticeable detail. That should reduce the file size by about 50%. Another thing you can do is to crop the photo (assuming you're not going to lose any interesting subject matter). J

I don't really understand either! I think you will find your photo handling program can compress the size (in kb) so they are more manageable. Its a mystery to me what size they will print out if you just go for a plain 'print' without some sort of box to put it in. Sorry not to be able to help more - at least I've kept your thread near the top so someone else might see it! Anne

the photos are jpeg.they are mainly old photos that i have scanned in, all sort of similar size etc, some seem small enough to add and others keep rejecting. i know that you have a limit to the size you can load onto your tree, but i dont really understand how similar photos have different sizes (mb and kb). sorry i really am a technophobe

What type of file is it? You may have saved the photo in a larger than necessary format. You could try saving it again (with a different name so you don't loose the original) as a JPG (or JPEG) file. They are usually smaller and can be compressed if necessary. Anne
